Impressions from the General CEMS Alumni Assembly 2017
What an impressive team of dedicated, smart and mature people, who can not only discuss, share best practices and brainstorm about future direction of the CEMS Alumni Association but also create a clear strategy, split responsibilities and motivate each other to act upon them.
This is the very first impression that comes to my mind when reflecting on the General CEMS Alumni Association (CAA) Assembly held during the first October weekend in Warsaw.
The General CAA Aseembly 2017 was hosted by the LC in Poland and the Warsaw School of Economics. The participants were CAA global board memebers, CEMS Alumni global team and presidents of LCs.
The Czech Republic did not take part in this event for several years. Nevertheless it seemed as if we were always represented considering the very warm welcome from all other attendees and the immediate inclusion into the future strategy setting.
The CEMS Programme is very well known for the highly engaged community of CEMS Students.
Yet seeing the same level of dedication and commitment among experienced CEMS Alumni reminded me again how unique the CEMS Alumni Community actually is and that CEMS is without any doubt an amazing life-long learning journey.
Apart from the intense official programme, there was also space for social gathering and informal get-together. After the weekend in Warsaw I again understood the full meaning of the unbelievable Polish hospitality.
What are the key updates from the Warsaw meeting?
- We have a new CAA Board with Alberto Constans as the new CAA President. There is tremendous amount of experience, expertise as well as the dedication among the team members of the new board team and LC Presidents.
- Thanks to the broad CEMS Alumni sruvey held recently, we have objective in-depth insight into the preferences of CEMS Alumni all around the world.
- CAA Board has defined a clear global strategy:
- Getting the basics right
- Building strong and unique value proposition of CEMS Alumni
Which global projects will be Czech Republic contributing to?
- Delivery of the CEMS Alumni LC start-up package
- Driving Thoughtleadership and CEMS Social Partnership
- CEMS Talk to become a global concept
What are the goals of the Alumni Community in the Czech Republic after the Warsaw event?
- Increase the number of active CEMS Alumni and work pro-actively with fresh graduates
- Expand the CEMS Alumni Board Team
- Continue with regular CEMS Talk and bring them also online
- Deliver one flagship social event per year
- Intensify the collaboration with CEMS Club Prague
What do we need?
- We need Your help and support. If you are interested in the CEMS Alumni Community and want to join as a new member of the CEMS Alumni Board or rather offer a hand on an ad-hoc basis - please let us know at cemsalumni@seznam.cz
Stay tuned. There is a lot coming in the CEMS Alumni Community :)
Warm regards from Warsaw,
1 Jun 2017

Becoming a member of CEMS Alumni Association Prague
Hi,
This time I am not posting an invitation to the event organized by CEMS Alumni Association Prague, CEMS Club or someone from alumni, nor offering you the opportunity to lecture at the University of Economics :-).
Beginning of the year is the best moment for registration and payment of membership fees of CEMS Alumni Association.
What are the benefits membership brings has been already written. To recap - it's e.g. discounts on events in the Czech Republic, access to various databases including EBSCO, for some of you the greatest benefit can be the possibility to participate on annual events.
We think, however, that the main reasons for membership in the association are different. It is mainly an expression of belonging to a growing number of students and graduates of all CEMS and what environment CEMS means. Opportunity to study at good schools meet during their studies and after with smart people who have different interests and motivation to do something extra. It also means supporting alumni activities not only on global, but especially on the Czech level.
What do you think? Does it make sense to you? If so, I encourage you to pay yearly (€ 60) or lifetime fee (600 EUR) or its variants for couples. You may pay via cems.org or by using our Czech account (more here).
Together with this and previous boards of CEMS Alumni Association Prague we devoted quite lots of energy to alumni activities, so we would be happy if the number of Czech alumni once again slightly increases and moves the Czech Republic to the front of the peloton.
Best regards
Vojta & Olga, Katka, Lucka, Klara, Richard

Paying your membership fee
As this is the best moment for paying your membership fee for 2013 here is a simple guideline on how you can do that. There are two options.
- Paying on cems.org with your credit card. Go to www.cems.org, log in at the top. After logging in click on Alumni Zone in the left menu and select Online Payment. Then press on Pay your annual fee. So, finally you are the right place to pay your membership. Now just follow the steps - and don't forget to correctly select LC Czech Republic.
- The other way to make your payment is to pay it to our account 2900119575/2010 at Fio banka. If you select this option pay 1560 CZK and let me know that you send the payment.

CEMS alumni members in Prague - numbers and value
Ever wondered how many alumni are there in Prague?
So far, more than 300 cemsies from VSE graduated in CEMS MIM. Even though tens of alumni have participated in various professional, fun and sport events the average number of CAA members (i.e. the paying members) is just above 17, if calculated from 2007 it is 22.
As we are developing especially new professional activities and increasing the quality of our events we are looking forward to reaching much higher numbers of alumni this year.
To give you an overview of how successful we are in the international context just check the chart below. As you can see last year the Czech Republic was in the middle of the field dominated by Switzerland and especially Germany.
The beginning of the year is the best time to become a member and be a true member of the alumni "family". Even though there is a number of benefits the membership offers, the main benefit is something that is usually not on the list: being a member of a community of open- and internationally-minded persons with similar background yet different personalities, hobbies and careers who can share their experience and enrich you both profesionally and personally. Also, with your membership you help promoting the CEMS MIM degree and thus expand the cems family.
In the following weeks we will update you on the benefits, the planned events of CAA Prague and the way you can contribute. I am looking forward to welcoming you personally at our events and in the CEMS Alumni community!

News from St. Gallen: CAA General Assembly 2012
Dear CEMS Alumni, we would like to bring you summary of the biggest CEMS Alumni International Event of 2012. The University of St. Gallen (SGH) hosted this year's CEMS Annual Events, traditionally connected with students' graduation, academic meetings and most importantly for you, with General Assembly of the CEMS Alumni Association.
The official Alumni meeting took place on December 1st and we had representatives of 10 Local Alumni Commitees voting this time (CZ, AT, DE, FR, UK, IT, DK,
PL, BE, CH). Based on new statuses of the CAA, local committees could elect some members of the new CAA executive body - the CAA Board (it should stay in active mandate for three years). See new structure of the elected CAA Board below, there were some great candidates among junior and senior Alumni and also among dedicated members of Local Committees who are willing to help promote CEMS Alumni network on international level. This new board now has to vote on the position of the upcoming CAA President.
St.Gallen was beautifuly covered with snow and with Xmas markets season starting, it was a very enjoyable stay for both students and alumni, not to mention great Swiss organization skills around the whole event. Alumni program was also very full this time. Besides Friday's and Saturday's parties, there were special Alumni Cheese Fondue dinner on Saturday and Alumni Brunch on Sunday, both organized by LC Switzerland. This created nice atmosphere for Alumni to talk, get to know each other or meet again. If you want to participate as Alumni enjoying the power of CEMS network, do not forget to pay your CAA membership fee for 2013 and you can enjoy next year's event in Barcelona :-).
Other key callouts from Alumni Assembly:
- CAA Board will hire the CAA director in first half of 2013 and this will be full time paid employee responsible for operations of the CAA Board. CEMS Headquarters did not sponsor CAA anyhow in 2012, but in 2013, they plan to contribute on professionalisation of the CAA, under condition of hiring the CAA director (could be up to 72,500 EUR).
- Alumni membership fee stays at 60 EUR per person for 2013.
- CAA holds 109,996€ in open reserves and 50,900€ in reserves on funding of life-long members (split in multiple accounts, 76,500€ is now in risk-free savings account since 11/2012), CAA can propose how these funds could be used going forward or LCs could propose to organize a bigger pan-European event, new CAA board will be able to decide on use of these reserves. These are international CAA funds, they do not belong to dedicated LCs.
- Update on Linked In Group: 5250 members connected, we should more promote to raise awareness of CEMS through LinkedIn, please add CEMS ecucation to your profile, among those 5250 members, we have some very good senior profiles, they might not be paying members anymore, but they connected through LinkedIn.
- CAA
needs to work on career service offerings – besides
personal networking, this area has never been very successful, CEMS job market is
empty and LinkedIn group slowly starts bringing some interesting job offers,
but we should have a separate professional db where paying alumni can look for
job opportunities – very good added value. Torsten R. presented proposal to use French
company manageurs.com which is active with alumni associations in French
speaking countries. They would need to translate their product fully into
English and also start offering more opportunities outside of French speaking
regions, but they are very flexible in terms of systematic solution. Corporate
partners could also use special access, paying alumni could access exclusively.

CEMS Alumni Association calls for candidates for the international CAA Board
Dear Alumni, in this post, our Czech Alumni Association would like to inform you about three important news in regards to development of CEMS Alumni network on global level:
- There have been numerous discussions about future governance of CEMS Alumni Association on central level and on Oct 6, 2012 in Milan, current members of CEMS executive commitee together with representatives of local commitees have signed new statuses of the CEMS Alumni Association aiming at higher professionalization of alumni activities and streghthening of their impact going forward. Czech LC was represented by LC Poland and their treasurer Ewa Szczerba voted on behalf of us.
- Based on these statuses, there is a need to elect the executive body of CEMS Alumni Association - the CAA Board. The call for candidates has just begun and deadline runs until Nov 17th. You can read about details of CAA membership in statuses (see the link above in point 1.). What is important should you consider your candidature?
- 3 seats are reserved to active paying LC representatives (representing local alumni associations)
- 2 seats are reserved to paying alumni who graduated 10 or more years ago
- 2 seats are reserved to paying alumni from the last 10 years since graduation
3. Based on applications submitted to ec@cemsalumni.org, the new CAA board 2013 will be elected by the General Assembly during Annual Events in St. Gallen on Dec 1, 2012. LC Czech Republic will be represented by Olga Nydlova to participate during this election.

Farewell with Mrs. Subrtova
After many years Mrs. Subrtova, the CEMS Student Coordinator in Prague, is saying goodbye. For most of us she was the main face of CEMS - answering our questions, dealing with our requests, accompanying us at the graduation ceremony.
On February 23 we said goodbye to her during a great event which took place in Restaurant Austria. Some 30 CEMS alumni from different classes gathered to meet her have fun and also meet other alumni.

If you have ever asked yourself what you could do to give something back to CEMS, the answer is very easy: Post the internship offers of your company to the CEMS Job Market!

There are two options to post offers to the JobMarket.
- The preferred one is that your company registers and accesses the job market with its own company login. Corporate Partners can also screen the CVs of students and alumni.
- The other option is for you to directly access the Job Market using as company profile "CEMS Alumni offers for students". Simply access the JobMarket as a Company with the login name "alumni@cems.org" and password "offersfromalumni". On the left hand side under "Positions" -> "New position" -> "Internship", you can enter your offers. Please note: since the offer will be displayed with the company name: "CEMS Alumni offers for students" it is important that you put your company name at the beginning of the field "Position". In the fields "Contact name" and "Email", please put your name and your @cemsmail.org address. Otherwise we cannot validate your offer.
