Meet the ... Finance

Another event from our Meet the... series, prepared in cooperation with CEMS Club Prague, took place on 7th November at the premises of the University of Economics Prague. This time we have focused on Finance and were able to meet four very interesting speakers from different areas of this field of practice:
  • Marketa Chrustova, Manager, Corporate Finance, PricewaterhouseCoopers
  • Radka Kucerova, CFA Director, Avenida Research
  • Lukas Puda, Manager, Global Markets, HSBC Bank Plc
  • Jakub Zidon, Manager of Energy Derivatives Sales, Erste Group Bank
Great track record, international experience and seniority of our speakers, together with relatively small size of the audience alowed for very open discussion and gave room to a lot of questions. The environment was so friendly that even speakers gave each other questions and commented what others said. The event was concluded with an open discussion and networking at Sklep restaurant near-by the event location. All speakers very much appretiated a chance to listen to and understand what made their colleagues career succesful one.

Next Meet the... event will take place on 28th November and focus on the area of Human Resources. A topic which might not only be interesting for those who consider this as their dream-job, but basicaly to anyone as you will have a chance to ask high profile HR professionals all the questions you always wanted to get answered.

We are looking forward to meeting you at one of our next events.

2011 FT Ranking: CEMS Global Alliance one again on the podium

Dear alumni
let me share with yout a great news concerning CEMS FT Ranking.

Dear CEMS community,

The CEMS MIM is this year ranked the n°2 pre-experience Master’s in Management in the world in the global Financial Times ranking. 17 CEMS member schools appear in total, including 8 in the top 25, underlying the excellence of the CEMS alliance and all its members on the M.Sc. segment. Congratulations should be extended to our Swiss member school the University of St Gallen, whose Master in Strategy and International Management was ranked n°1 for 2011.

Of particular significance to our alliance is the confirmation that the CEMS MIM is top in the 3-year ranking, which covers the period 2009-11 during which the programme has been ranked 1st, 2nd and 2nd. If we also take into account the fact that the CEMS MIM has featured permanently in the top 3 since the ranking began in 2005 we can be doubly proud of these years of outstanding achievement.

The CEMS MIM emerges once more as the n°1 programme for combined international results (international faculty, student and board diversity, alumni mobility and international course experience).

This year, the CEMS MIM improved in 8 categories of the ranking compared with the 2010 edition, including an “Aims Achieved” score of 86% and a Careers Rank gain of 9 places. You can look at all details on the CEMS homepage (including the full ranking table and report).

Congratulations to all of you for the excellent results – with a special mention to the CEMS Class of 2008 that was surveyed by the FT this year.

Warm regards

François Collin
CEMS Executive Director

Offer Internships to CEMS students

This is an excerpt from the CAA Newsletter May 2011.

Do you remember when you were looking for your CEMS internship abroad? It may not have been easy to find the right one that met your expectations, but it was probably a very important experience at the beginning of your career which helped you to be where you are right now.
If you have ever asked yourself what you could do to give something back to CEMS, the answer is very easy: Post the internship offers of your company to the CEMS Job Market!

There are two options to post offers to the JobMarket.
  • The preferred one is that your company registers and accesses the job market with its own company login. Corporate Partners can also screen the CVs of students and alumni.
  • The other option is for you to directly access the Job Market using as company profile "CEMS Alumni offers for students". Simply access the JobMarket as a Company with the login name "alumni@cems.org" and password "offersfromalumni". On the left hand side under "Positions" -> "New position" -> "Internship", you can enter your offers. Please note: since the offer will be displayed with the company name: "CEMS Alumni offers for students" it is important that you put your company name at the beginning of the field "Position". In the fields "Contact name" and "Email", please put your name and your @cemsmail.org address. Otherwise we cannot validate your offer.

Our plans...

As we have informed you the new Board of CAA Prague was elected. Since then we have had a meeting in order to discuss our plans in detail.

So what are they the like? We will focus both on alumni and students as we believe they form an inseparable part of the whole CEMS community. Right now we are planning to organize the following events:
  • In the autumn we will organize an ALUMNI BOAT PARTY ON VLTAVA. The goal is not only to have fun with people you already know but also to gather as much alumni as possible and create new friendships as well as professional relations.
  • We would like to spend one weekend in the summer on one of the CZECH RIVERS ON CANOES.
  • We will organize a PREGRADUATION DINNER FOR STUDENTS to inform them about their upcoming graduation event as well as gain some new active and fresh alumni :-). This is how the dinner liked like last year.
  • We are considering organizing a PANEL DISCUSSION ABOUT THE PROFILE OF CEMS STUDENTS, i.e. what they study, what they are good at and where are the areas of possible improvement. We believe such a discussion should involve students, alumni, CEMS academia, corporate partners as well as HR professionals.
  • In the autumn we will re-start our MEET THE... EVENINGS FOR STUDENTS where experienced professionals share with students details about their particular field of business such as consulting, marketing, or corporate finance.
  • We will continue with our THEATRE VISITS as well as with our traditional SAUNA SWEATINGS :-). If you don't know what a theatre visit is like read this article.
  • Additionaly we will also like to test a CEMS ALUMNI DRINK - or a monthly gathering of alumni who would like to see each other again, have fun and share their newest news.
  • Besides that we will also try to EXPAND THE NUMBER OF ACTIVE CEMS ALUMNI here in Prague.
And last but not least - we will continue informing you about all our activities via mail, Facebook, Linkedin and this blog.
Are you missing something? Is there anything you would like to suggest or organize on your own? Then just let us know. We are looking forward to reading your suggestions as we want to meet your needs.

Shakespear´s digest in Divadlo v Dlouhé

Do you know how many pieces wrote William Shakespeare? Do you think its possible to get to know all of them in two hours? In Divadlo v Dlouhe it is!

In the first week of January a group of 12 CEMS Alumni visited a popular play by famous Divadlo v Dlouhe: Souborne dilo Williama Shakespeare ve 120 minutach. Only 3 actors: Miroslav Taborsky, Jan Vondracek and Martin Matejka guided us through Shakespeare´s 37 tragedies, comedies, historical plays, romances, on top of that adding the 154 sonets. The show was full of action, funny sketches and amusing singing & dancing performances. The evening then continued in our favourite Lokal restaurant with a long after party :)

Next CEMS Alumni theatre visit will be Dealer´s Choice in Dejvicke divadlo, date to be confirmed soon. Stay in touch through Facebook and join us next time as well!

Pre-graduation dinner

The pre-graduation dinner organised by CEMS Alumni club for new CEMS MIM graduates took place in Lokal at the end of November. Students with completed CEMS programme met together with Ms. Subrtova and Mr. Hnilica to discuss not only their plans for the Annual event. As usually, the CEMS dinner was firstly a networking event, where you could get new, useful business and personal contacts, share your experience and find out how other school mates are doing.

The CEMS Alumni club organised a raffle for one year free membership in the Alumni Association: it was won by Martin Klimeš, congratulations!

The more people come, the bigger network – so hope to see you next time at our CEMS Alumni drink!
